DESCRIPTION:Guided Bird Walk at Hassayampa River Preserve\nDiscover the birds of Arizona’s desert waterways during a guided morning walk through the Hassayampa River Preserve. \nJoin Ranger Eric to look and listen for resident and migrating bird species within the Preserve’s diverse riparian habitat. Along the way\, participants will learn how to identify birds by sight and sound\, explore the behaviors and ecological traits that make each species unique\, and discover citizen-science resources such as eBird and iNaturalist. \nThe walk will cover at least one mile on trails that are mostly flat and shaded\, with some uneven or sandy areas. A limited number of binoculars will be available to borrow. \nPlease wear sturdy footwear and sun protection\, and bring plenty of water. \nRegistration is required and limited to only 10 participants. Registration closes Friday\, September 11. DESCRIPTION:Hassayampa Butterfly Monitoring\nBecome a citizen scientist and help document Arizona’s native butterflies during Hassayampa Butterfly Monitoring at the Hassayampa River Preserve. \nPresented in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association’s Parks for Pollinators BioBlitz\, this hands-on outdoor program teaches participants how to identify native butterflies while collecting information that can help researchers understand population trends\, species richness and butterfly diversity throughout Maricopa County. \nParticipants will meet at the Nature Center before heading into the Preserve’s desert and riparian habitat. \nBring water\, a snack\, a hat\, sunscreen and closed-toed shoes. Cameras\, binoculars and butterfly identification guides are optional but encouraged. \nParticipants should be 18 or older. Around sunset\, the show continues as hundreds to thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from beneath the nearby Hwy. 60 bridge. \nThe evening includes educational tables\, ranger-guided bat habitat tours\, viewing optics\, ambassador raptors from Wild at Heart\, local food vendors and partner organizations sharing more about Wickenburg’s desert wildlife.
