On Saturday, August 29, Gabriele Bitter will demonstrate encaustic art techniques from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Encaustic is a fascinating process that uses heated wax and pigments to create richly layered, textured surfaces with depth, movement and a beautifully handmade feel. Guided Dragonfly Walk at Hassayampa River Preserve
Guided Dragonfly Walk at Hassayampa River Preserve Hassayampa River Preserve is one of Wickenburg’s best places to slow down and notice the details, and this guided Dragonfly Walk is all about those bright, fast-moving little wonders near the water. Join Ranger Eric on Sunday, August 30, from 7:15 to 9:15 AM to learn about dragonflies and damselflies at this desert oasis. The walk will explore areas around River Ramble and Palm Lake, with the route adjusted for time and heat. According to the Preserve, more than 50 species of dragonflies and damselflies have been found there. Some binoculars may be available to borrow, but guests should bring water, wear sturdy footwear, and plan for sun protection. Registration is required and limited to 20 participants. Sunset Hike at Hassayampa River Preserve
Few things beat a Wickenburg sunset, and this guided evening hike gives you a front-row seat. On Thursday, August 27, Ranger Olivia will lead a Sunset Hike through Hassayampa River Preserve, with time to enjoy desert views, look for evening wildlife, and watch the sun go down from Lykes Lookout. The hike is expected to cover about 1 to 1.5 miles, beginning near Palm Lake Loop and River Ramble before heading toward the overlook. The terrain is mostly easy, with small to medium rocks underfoot and a short 90-foot elevation gain near the end. Bring closed-toe shoes, plenty of water, and a flashlight.
