Meet Sandra Wojcik
New Director of Wickenburg Area Habitat For Humanity and Restore
Photo and Interview by Leslie Terhorst
Welcome to this special interview with a dedicated community leader who is making a profound impact in Wickenburg, Arizona. Today, we have the privilege of sitting down with Sandra Wojcik, the New Director of Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that’s been working tirelessly to build a brighter future for families in need throughout our community.
I’ve been a part of the Wickenburg community ever since my mother Jan Powell moved here in 2006. She loved volunteering as it gave her a sense of making a difference in the lives of those she helped. That is the epitome of what Habitat for Humanity is doing for our community and beyond.
Habitat ReStore just happens to be one of our favorite businesses here in town. I have personally bought a ‘Char Broil’ Grill (brand new and about a 1/3 of what it would have cost retail). I bought a gently used smoker that I have put to work extensively, and love dearly. If you have DIY projects always check with Habitat Re-Store, odds are good you’ll find what you need and maybe a few things that you’ll just have to have.
I sat down with Sandra to find out a little more about this powerhouse Director and here’s what she had to say.
Wickenburg Social: You’re the new Director at the Habitat for Humanity – ReStore in Wickenburg, Welcome. Tell us how you came to join us here in Wickenburg?
Sandra: I married into Wickenburg, and honestly, I felt I wasn’t going to fit in. I was raised in the City my entire life, and moving to a small town was a bit concerning. I’m so happy I made the move. This is where I belong.
WS: Tell us about how you get your wonderful items in your store?
Sandra: We are extremely fortunate to have an amazing community. We reestablished our relationship with 2 Lowe’s store and continue with HD Supplies. We are no longer the ReStore of a year ago. Our merchandise has changed dramatically. TIP: Is you see it, take it…. It may not be here when you come back. Follow us on Facebook, for specials and feature items at Habitat for Humanity Wickenburg.
WS: Does a portion of the sales from the store help to build houses for local families?
Sandra: Absolutely! Along with fundraiser and donations. Building homes is our focus. Best part… it for our community.
WS: I’ve heard that you’re almost done with the new home in Congress?
Sandra: Yes!! We are looking at a tentative date of Novembr 15th. The family will still need to finalize the mortgage portion before move in. That date is TBD.
WS: How do families get chosen for a new home?
Sandra: Once we announce we are accepting application, applicants can complete an application online @ www.habitatwickenburg.org. or come into the ReStore/Office to pick one up. Then the Family Services/Mortgage Committee review all applicants base on the criteria we set forth.
WS: Do you need volunteers to help with the store, or helping build the next home?
Sandra: We are always in need of volunteers at the ReStore. In respect to helping with a home built, it’s all contingent on what the Construction chair needs. We encourage all who are interested to visit our website at www.habitatwickenburg.org and sign up.
WS: What do you love most about Wickenburg?
Sandra: It’s a tight-knit community. When in need, everyone comes together to help.
WS: Any final thoughts on what we as a community can do to help Habitat for Humanity – Wickenburg ReStore.
Sandra: I believe in our mission and vision, and without the help from our community, sponsors, and corporate sponsors this will not be possible. It’s my goal to build a strong foundation to continue to build homes, communities, and hope.
Our Mission is: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Wickenburg Area Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
Our Vision is: A Community where everyone has a decent place to live.
I have so much gratitude and respect for the team we have in place. They have Habitat For Humanity in their hearts and they work extremely hard daily to see us prosper.
Sandra’s passion for housing equity and her commitment to the mission of Habitat for Humanity have not only transformed lives but have also left an indelible mark on our town. She brings not only expertise but also boundless compassion to her role, creating a powerful force for positive change.
